Field Lacrosse Equipment

If there is any confusion regarding appropriate equipment, our coaches are always happy to answer your questions.  Below is a list of gear that players are expected to have when they show up for practices and games.

Boys Field Lacrosse Equipment

Helmet:  Hockey helmets are fine to use. All facemasks and helmets must be Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or National Organizing Committee for Safety in Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) approved. These approved helmets and masks can be viewed on the Canadian Lacrosse Association website

Stick:  There are seemingly limitless combinations of heads and shafts for lacrosse sticks. A lot of the choice will come down to personal preference, but make sure the mesh is properly set up for play.

Gloves: Hockey gloves are allowed, but their stiffness can hamper stick handling. Lacrosse gloves are lighter and allow for a greater range of motion.

Shoulder pads : Similar to hockey gloves, hockey shoulder pads are fine to wear when getting started, but because of the bigger padding (shoulder cups) they can affect movement .

Arm/slash guards:  These cover the player's arms from above the elbow to the wrist and protect against stick slashes or contact to this area.

Kidney padsKidney pads protect the area between the shoulder pads and a players waist. These are optional for U14 Bantam and up.

Jack/Jill protective cup: The protective cups used in other sports are acceptable for field lacrosse.

Mouthguard:  Mouth guards for field lacrosse are the sames as those used in other sports, and are mandatory for every practice and scrimmage.

Jerseys:  Jerseys are provided for Calgary Field Lacrosse players. Players are required to wear these for all practices and scrimmages.

Footwear : Running shoes are acceptable to wear. Cleats can be worn, however metal cleats cannot be used on turf fields.
